Phyllislorena Smiley

Born under the sign of Scorpio, Phyllislorena has the natural ability to captivate her audience. When she steps to the mic, the energy level of the room rises immediately.

She was introduced to the piano at age five which spawned this lifelong love affair with music. Early formal lessons and perseverance paid off to the tune of a full music scholarship at Jackson State University where she earned the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and the Master of Music Education degrees. She imposes a rigid set of standards for herself musically with the attitude that there is always room for improvement. She knows that there are multitudes of talented musicians who are awaiting their “big break” so she endeavors to capitalize on each musical opportunity that comes her way.

Always striving to be the consummate musician, she has been paying her dues and over the years has picked up several awards from various talent competitions.   She was voted background vocalist of the year by the Jackson Music Awards Association in Jackson, Mississippi.  She was chosen by Fox 5 Atlanta's Morning News "Good Day Atlanta" as the  "Good Day Singer".  A multi-talented musician, Phyllislorena has played keyboards and sung background and lead vocals with a variety of artists ranging from the Freedom Band (R&B) to the late Johnny Taylor and Willie Clayton (Southern Soul).

She is currently the music director and lead vocalist for the Total Package Band an outstanding rhythm & blues band based in Atlanta, GA. Her melodious voice can be heard in the background vocals on the albums of Grammy-winning STAX legend William Bell and his Wilbe Records artists - Jeff Floyd(Southern Soul), Lola Gulley(Southern Soul) and Wizard Jones(Smooth Jazz).   Her songwriting credits include: from Wizard Jone’s  – “Roze’s Garden-CD”  “Glad You’re Home” and “Just Keep Movin” and from Gary Harris' " Here for You- CD" "Yesterday is Gone"   Her vocal and writing skills are demonstrated on several songs on the Total Package Band CD entitled "T's Groove"  Stay tuned...there's more to come!
